Arctic Adventurer Snowmobile Tour for Icefishing in Kiruna

Image
This time of the year here is high season for Icefishing with a wide range of icefishing tours that starts from Kiruna. Weather conditions are perfect for activities outdoors and still the cold nights make it possible to travel on snow and ice until the end of april. A very common activity here among tourists and the locals are all the numbers of icefishing contests happening here every weekend. When you participate in a icefishing contest you competite with tousands of other icefishing at the same time on a given area on a lake or river ice. Most of the icefishing contests here are a exciting event during two hours of competition. Then you participate in a lottery and a prize ceremony where the winner and hundreds of participants get awards. One of the biggest icefishing contests happens in Killpisjärvi, northern Finland, some 300 kilometers drive from Kiruna, Sweden. Here, around 6000 ice fishermen participate at the ice in an outstanding ice fishing competition. Read more here! ht...

Travelling by car along mountain roads in winter time

Image
I do lot travelling by car along mountain roads here to reach out to the reindeer herding occations. In winter time we use to collect all our reindeers and count them for to send the numbers to the government. Since some years we must also feed our reindeers out to the mountains since we have almost no whitemoss left for the reindeers to eat. The climate change has made it hard for the reindeers to survive on its own. There is more worthless grass growing on the mountains and that competite out the important reindeer feed, the whitemoss. Because of 0.4 degree warmer temperature we have got 11 new herbs and grass sorts growing up with longer roots than the whitemoss has. That kills the whitemoss. However, here is a couple of pictures a january night that says some about how much snow it can be here near the border between Sweden and Norway.

What a wonderful nature

Red deer in a cold winter morning

Nice view! Out from the window from my breakfast table an early morning around Christmas time! We feed red deer over the hash winters here at home.

At the foot of the mountain

The wind has blown away much of the snow on the high mountain in mid-February. But winter is not over for it, it will snow many days yet, several months, and we will have snow left until mid-May.
